Draw and Colour
Colour any of the 40 Little Roos animals, or draw on a blank page with stamps and a magic mirror. Every tool says its name, and a picture prints just as it looks.
The tools
- Fat brushes in three sizes, easy for small hands to fill a space with.
- Fill it in: tap a space and it fills, right up to the lines. Tap a filled space again to change it.
- Colours and patterns: ten colours, each with its name said aloud, and five patterns (stripes, spots, checks and zigzags, or plain). A child who finds two colours hard to tell apart can always tell stripes from spots.
- Stamps on the blank page: the outlines of eight Little Roos animals, ready to colour in.
- Magic mirror on the blank page: whatever is drawn on one side appears on the other, so every picture is symmetrical.
- Undo, as many times as needed. Start again always asks first, so a picture can't be rubbed out by accident.
- Print it: the picture prints on one A4 page, just as it looks on screen, with a line for a name.
- Put it in my journal: the eight newest pictures are kept on your device, under My pictures and in My Roo Journal, to keep going with later.
It works with a finger, a stylus, or a computer's pointer. With a switch (see Ways to play), the stamps can be placed on a three-by-three grid of spots, and every tool, colour and pattern can be chosen.

Away from the screen
Print a colouring page and colour it with real crayons. Then try a fold-and-paint butterfly: blobs of paint on one half of a folded sheet, pressed shut, make a picture that matches on both sides.
What it practises
- Drawing and colouring. Making pictures: choosing colours and patterns, filling shapes, and drawing ideas of your own.
AC9AVAFC01 (Visual Arts, Foundation); AC9AVAFD01 (Visual Arts, Foundation) - Colours. Noticing and matching colours.
EYLF 4.2 (Early Years Learning Framework V2.0) - Symmetry. Making both sides of a picture match, as if in a mirror. (Symmetry is a Year 4 outcome; this is a gentle early start.)
AC9M4SP03 (Mathematics, Year 4); EYLF 5.4 (Early Years Learning Framework V2.0)
What it costs, and what we collect
Nothing, and nothing. Pictures are kept on your own device and never sent anywhere.
