Stroopy
Paying attention when the word and the colour disagree · ages 6-8
1. Warm-up, 5 minutes
Play opposite day: when you say "stand", everyone sits; when you say "sit", everyone stands. Go slowly, then faster.
2. The game, on the projector
The class says the colour they see, not the word, out loud together, and one child taps it. Start with two colours.
Projector mode is the game with ?projector on the end of its address. It's big and landscape, a win waits for you to press Next, and nothing is saved on the computer: no progress, no animal cards, no login.
3. Away from the screen
Colour-word cards: in pairs, one child holds up a card and the other names the ink colour. Swap after five.
Questions to ask
- What colour can you see, not what does the word say?
- Is it easier to go fast or slow?
- What helps you not to read the word?
