Pelican's Patterns
Patterns: spotting what repeats, and working out what comes next · ages 3-6
1. Warm-up, 5 minutes
Clap, clap, stamp. Clap, clap, stamp. What comes next? Make body patterns together.
2. The game, on the projector
Read the pattern aloud together, then vote on what comes next before a helper taps it.
Projector mode is the game with ?projector on the end of its address. It's big and landscape, a win waits for you to press Next, and nothing is saved on the computer: no progress, no animal cards, no login.
3. Away from the screen
Pattern train: each child makes a repeating pattern with blocks or beads and swaps with a partner to continue.
Questions to ask
- Can you say the pattern out loud?
- Which part keeps repeating?
- What would come after that one?
