Looking and finding
For two- and three-year-olds: looking for something hidden, and knowing it's still there when you can only see a bit of it. Little Roos has 1 free game that practise it, for ages 2-3.
Where it fits
In the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 (birth to five) and the Australian Curriculum v9 (Foundation to Year 2), with the official wording:
- EYLF 4.2 (Early Years Learning Framework V2.0): Children develop a range of learning and thinking skills and processes such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.
Games that practise it
- Wombat's Peekaboo: Looking and finding, for two- and three-year-olds: who's hiding behind the bush?. Ages 2-3.
Away from the screen
About two minutes each, with things most homes have.
Peekaboo under the blanket (from Wombat's Peekaboo)
- Hide a favourite toy under a tea towel, with a little bit showing.
- Ask "Where's Teddy?" and let your child pull the towel away. "Peekaboo!"
- Swap: your child hides the toy (or themselves) and you find it.
Things to ask while they play
- Where's Koala?
- Can you see her ears?
More skills in Attention and self-control, or every skill.
