Getting along with others
Taking turns, sharing, losing well, having a go, saying sorry, and noticing when a friend is sad. Little Roos has 2 free games, tours and things to make that practise it, for ages 3-6.
Where it fits
In the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 (birth to five) and the Australian Curriculum v9 (Foundation to Year 2), with the official wording:
- AC9HPFP02 (Australian Curriculum v9: Health and Physical Education, Foundation): practise personal and social skills to interact respectfully with others.
- AC9HPFP04 (Australian Curriculum v9: Health and Physical Education, Foundation): explore how to seek, give or deny permission respectfully when sharing possessions or personal space.
- EYLF 2 (Early Years Learning Framework V2.0): Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
Games that practise it
- Platypus Feels: Reading feelings in faces and in moments: happy and sad, calm and angry, excited and tired, scared and cosy. Ages 3-6.
- Feelings and friends stories: Something to make.
Away from the screen
About two minutes each, with things most homes have.
Feelings faces in the mirror (from Platypus Feels)
- Sit in front of a mirror together and take turns pulling a face: happy, sad, angry, scared, calm.
- Guess each other's feeling, and say one thing that might make someone feel that way.
- Finish with a calm face and three slow breaths together.
Things to ask while they play
- What made you feel happy today?
- What does your face do when you feel cross?
More skills in Feelings, or every skill.
