Syllable Stomp
Hearing the beats in a word: how many stomps in koala? · ages 3-6
1. Warm-up, 5 minutes
Clap your names in beats around the circle: Ol-i-ver (three), Sam (one). Then stomp them.
2. The game, on the projector
The whole class stomps the animal's name together, counting the stomps, before a helper taps the footprints.
Projector mode is the game with ?projector on the end of its address. It's big and landscape, a win waits for you to press Next, and nothing is saved on the computer: no progress, no animal cards, no login.
3. Away from the screen
Stomp sort: each group sorts picture cards into one-, two- and three-beat piles.
Questions to ask
- How many stomps in your name?
- Which animal has the most stomps?
