Number Ninja
Adding and taking away, by finding the pair that works · ages 6-8
1. Warm-up, 5 minutes
Hold up some fingers on one hand and some on the other. How many altogether? Then take one away.
2. The game, on the projector
The class works out the pair on their fingers first, then one child taps it. Say the sum together: "Four and three make seven."
Projector mode is the game with ?projector on the end of its address. It's big and landscape, a win waits for you to press Next, and nothing is saved on the computer: no progress, no animal cards, no login.
3. Away from the screen
Pairs in a bag: small groups pull out two number cards and add them with counters.
Questions to ask
- What number are we making?
- If you have 3, how many more do you need?
- Is there another pair that makes it too?
