- EYLF 5.1 (Early Years Learning Framework V2.0): Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes.

Away from the screen
About two minutes each, with things most homes have.
Fridge words (from Spelling Bee)
- Pick a short word from the game, like sun.
- Say it slowly together: s … u … n.
- Make it with fridge letters, bottle caps with letters on, or letters written on paper.
Rhyme ping-pong (from A Rhyme at a Time)
- Say a word: bat.
- Your child says a word that rhymes: hat, mat, sat. Made-up words count too.
- Keep going back and forth until you run out, then pick a new word.
Things to ask while they play
- What sound does this word start with?
- What sound comes next?
- Say them both out loud. Do they sound the same at the end?
- Can you think of another word that rhymes?
