Count on Me

Reading a number and putting it where it belongs

Warm-up, 5 minutes

Hold up fingers and have the class call out how many, then show the numeral card for it. Go up to 10, then mix them up.

On the projector

Children take turns to drag a number to its patch, and the class says the number out loud before it's placed.

Away from the screen

Number pegs: in small groups, peg the right number of pegs onto a card showing a numeral from 1 to 10.

Number Ninja

Adding and taking away, by finding the pair that works

Warm-up, 5 minutes

Hold up some fingers on one hand and some on the other. How many altogether? Then take one away.

On the projector

The class works out the pair on their fingers first, then one child taps it. Say the sum together: "Four and three make seven."
