Our place in space
Space is mostly empty and very big: a scale model with the Sun 30 cm wide puts Earth (smaller than a peppercorn) 32 big steps away and Neptune (a pea) nearly a kilometre away; light is the fastest thing there is, yet sunlight takes about eight minutes to reach Earth and the nearest star's light more than four years; we send spacecraft like Voyager 1 to explore for us.
